Trees with outstanding traits remain objects of human fascination. Distinguished by their extraordinary appearance, age, historical associations, or spiritual significance, they constitute important ecological assets meriting special recognition and protection. To support the identification, management and protection of these trees, new international standards are required. To unlock their potential, these trees’ survival must be secured, and their stories widely told.
