More than Weeds

Urban botany themed-poetry session interspersing readings with activities to support and encourage the creation of poems by attendees. I will also be joined by poet Suzannah Evans and public speaker Mike Weston.
Suzannah Evans is a poet, editor and tutor based in Sheffield, with collections Near Future (2018) and Space Baby (2022)  published by Nine Arches Press. She has a pamphlet forthcoming with Bad Betty Press this year, exploring environmental themese. https://suzannahevans.org/

Textile Islands: Weaving Geopolitics and Social Narratives in African Port-Cities

Port-Cities on the African continent holds expansive yet contentious narratives. Speaking to this discourse, our project seeks to use art to host communal knowledge exchanges executed through group weaving. Thereafter, this fabric (memory cloth), would be displayed within different aquatic contexts: beaches, harbours, and tidal pools. This intervention highlights themes of relationality, geopolitics and hydrocommons, encouraging cross-cultural exchanges in Africa.

Alternative food imaginaries

What alternative food imaginaries can we create for urban life in the context of the climate crisis? How can we expand our relationship with food systems beyond consumer-product relations? How can cultural practices contribute to the visualization and protection of biodiversity and knowledge systems connected to food?
In this session, we will collectively explore food practices questioning the rural/urban divide and investigate what small urban productions can teach us about our cities. To do so, we will meet with small-scale local honey producer Aurelian Mamitza, neighbour of the Atelier Gardens.
Meeting point: we will be meeting at the entrance of the Atelier Gardens before heading off just across the street to join Aurelian and his beehives.
