Recognising diverse nature values is crucial for fostering nature-positive futures. This is especially important for cities, given their significant impact on global and regional resources and biodiversity. The Urban Nature Futures Framework (UNFF) is introduced as a tool during the session, facilitating the identification of various nature values and the creation of future scenarios for urban areas. Participants will apply the UNFF to generate nature-positive scenarios across different scales and urban contexts while brainstorming ways to materialise these futures. This exercise aims to operationalize the UNFF and gather insights for refining the framework's application in various contexts, contributing to future engagement with non-academic stakeholders.

This session guides participants through the use of InVEST, a suite of open-source models used to map and value services from nature.

“Mainstreaming Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) requires consolidating current learning and addressing challenges to move forward. NATURA’s “Global Roadmap for urban NBS” initiative sought to take stock of the current research and practice of urban NBS, identifying gaps and opportunities to unlock future pathways. In this session, we will:
o Provide an overview of the key findings from the Global Roadmap for Asia
o Discuss the limitations of such stocktaking exercise and practical implications for research and practice
o Compare key findings against individual experiences from participants from the region to discuss the validity of the results”

In this session, we will discuss the potential and challenges of implementing nature-based solutions in the Global South. We will discuss the nuances of the concept, explore how it is being applied differently in various countries and interrogate its limitations in post-colonial contexts and in historically marginalised neighbourhoods.
