In this virtual event as part of the TNOC Festival, Himmelbeet, a community garden in Berlin, (Germany), collaborates with ANCI Lazio (The Association of Municipalities of the Lazio Region, Italy) to introduce a "SEED SESSION” designed to interactively and playfully present the International Manifesto on Governance for Urban Community Gardens, developed within the "GenerACTOR" cooperation project (2022-2024) funded by the European Union and aimed to promote innovative models of urban development in Barranquilla (Colombia).

Our proposal involves engaging participants in an interactive session to identify concrete actions that foster interaction between urban gardens at an international level. Furthermore, we aim to underscore the significance of the community approach for both urban and peri-urban gardens. This joint celebration among urban community gardens at an international level and interested citizens, provides a platform for sharing effective ideas and solutions.

Participants from Germany, Italy, Colombia, Cuba, and New York, who have already shown interest, and elsewhere will have the opportunity to add their names and associate them with specific actions. Additionally, they can connect with representatives from urban garden communities to establish friendships, even from a distance, and exchange valuable experiences.Join our virtual event for a Global Initiative for the Governance of Community Gardens. In this session EMARA Studio and Atelier ZA’ATAR are exploring growing and harvesting as practices of memory and belonging. The two design studios are juxtaposing two projects: one based in a home for elderly people in Ladakh and the other based in a migrant community in a remote town in France.

Ensuring that Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) are inclusive requires adequate methods that allow meaningful engagement with different stakeholders, starting with those directly affected on the ground. This skills session consists in presenting selected participatory methods from the Compendium developed and tested by NATURA’s team of early-career researchers and practitioners from different NBS-related disciplines to support the innovative design, implementation and management of urban NBS.

This session will address the climate, environmental, and food production benefits of community gardens in cities, and gardens' value as community-building institutions. Using as a case study the emergence of community gardens in New York City during a fiscal crisis, we will offer ideas and land-use strategies for persuasively engaging localities to provide infrastructures of support for community action.

This panel will feature change makers creating a positive impact at the city level. We will draw on the Lexicon of Change to share new and emerging terms and paradigms around climate change and human rights. The panelists will examine ways in which social entrepreneurs and change makers can promote tree equity, accessibility, and urban gardens across cities around the world.

Join us for an online dialogue where we’ll discuss how nature acts as a catalyst to create and sustain liveable communities and local economies.  We will feature a range of Irish based initiatives featuring case studies ranging from community based tree planting, regenerative tourism in the North west of Ireland,  take a look at the origins of Earth Rising, the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s new festival drawing audiences that surpassed expectations and introduce attendees to the Connecting Nature Enterprise Platform -the worlds largest community for nature-based enterprises
Guest speakers inlude: Caroline O'Hora, Irish Museum of Modern Art; Declan Cahill, U-Forest Project Manager for TCD and organsier of the Darndale Donut; and Kieran Farrell, Connecting Nature Enterprise Platform Manager and Regenerative Tourism Specialist.

This session aims to improve participants' skills to analyze biodiversity components and situations within the built environment, and to provide the knowledge to support and enhance existing biodiversity components, or where none are present, to provide them, without imposing undue maintenance and financial burdens, all to improve the urban environment for all occupiers and users, human as well as animal.

Urban botany themed-poetry session interspersing readings with activities to support and encourage the creation of poems by attendees. My poetry explores plant origins and history, the nature of migration and how what is categorised as weed or flower has something powerful to say about boundaries, borders, and belonging. I will also be joined by poet Suzannah Evans and public speaker Mike Weston.
Suzannah Evans is a poet, editor and tutor based in Sheffield, with collections Near Future (2018) and Space Baby (2022)  published by Nine Arches Press. She has a pamphlet forthcoming with Bad Betty Press this year, exploring environmental themese. https://suzannahevans.org/

What are the berries dreaming about? Walking together in the "Nasse Dreieck", a protected wild green area in Berlin Pankow, our fieldwork explores its dense ecological, sociopolitical and toxic history. Storytelling, mapping and role-playing help us cultivate close encounters with its multispecies life. Opening our senses, we engage curiously and critically with the more-than-urban ecology.
Feral Fieldwork is an applied transdisciplinary exploration of urgent social and ecological issues from an ecofeminist perspective. Initiated by Alice Cannavà, Chiara Garbellotto and Sina Ribak, it explores and tells stories about and with the urban nature of Berlin.

Drawing with water as a strategy for recognizing the memories that accumulate spatial and sensory experience from water. Water as subject and as agent. A workshop that proposes drawing outside the need to represent and places the experience of memory and spatial memory as part of valuing the sensitive landscapes of water.

Governance of NbS forwards urban biodiversity: towards the triptych of collaborative, inclusive and integrative approaches in cities

The shared governance of NbS in place entails both 1) the processes dynamics and 2) the settings for integrating those actions in the existing planning and urban policies. The barriers faced are a sign that institutional path dependencies, persisting administration issues and deeply rooted practices need to be removed and innovative governance approaches need to be devised and experimented with for NbS to be mainstreamed in cities.
Against this background, current research brings three key characteristics to the forefront for the planning and governance of NbS in cities: it needs to be collaborative, inclusive, and integrated. As a step forward, we can propose that these are the starting characteristics of good governance of NbS in cities.
The session aims at opening up a dialogue on governance challenges related to nature-based solutions and urban biodiversity in cities. The invitees will be giving 5-10 minutes pitch speech each to initiate a take on the topic from three different countries’ perspective: Italy, Netherlands and Germany. The discussants Israa & Niki will provoke the audience to participate in the debate through questions and an interactive questions session with Mentimeter or similar.

This interactive session invites participants to discuss successful strategies for expediting the translation of resilience research into on-site projects in urban coastal environments. We aim to harness knowledge and insights from various regions and a diverse range of stakeholders to co-design approaches that can promote the advancement of coastal resilience while prioritizing social equity.
