Damien Norris
The Wilding Project Owner
Australia
Damien retired from elite gymnastics in his twenties and transitioned into community development and international aid work. His professional journey continued to evolve as he assumed roles as a criminal and civil lawyer, public guardian, university lecturer, philosopher, and human rights consultant. After two decades of leading a sedentary lifestyle "behind a desk", the birth of his son prompted Damien to reassess his physical health and fitness. He rejuvenated his fitness by practicing parcours (La Méthode Naturelle) in natural and urban environments. This transformative journey was showcased in a TEDx presentation titled "It’s time to rewild." This presentation spurred a deep exploration of human movement and the significance of connecting with nature through movement, a topic that is now the focus of his current PhD research at Simon Fraser University, Canada. Damien's study explores the intersection of human rewilding through human movement, phenomenology, and embodiment. It underscores the importance of moving within nature to foster a deep connection with it. Damien actively engages in teaching, presenting, mentoring, and leading workshops, both in-person and online, on topics related to his research.
