Welcome to the Nature of Cities Festival 2024! A gathering to get inspired, to learn, to present, collaborate, or to meet hundreds of new best friends and urban nature co-conspirators. The Berlin segment is an all-inclusive multi-day experience featuring field-trips, in person talks, workshops, art interventions, a film festival, Farm-to-Table dinners, various opportunities for socializing, and much more. All of it takes place at the Atelier Gardens venue, and various other locations around Berlin.

Joe is a Founding Principal of KDI, and currently serves as Executive Director. A chartered civil and environmental engineer, he is passionate about the joint application of science and local knowledge to develop socially and ecologically resilient cities. Joe co-directs the global organization of KDI. He has over twenty years of professional experience in sustainable infrastructure master planning; design and delivery of water, wastewater, and sustainable urban drainage systems; and participatory design and engineering projects in both rural and urban settings. Joe has worked on multiple engineering and masterplanning design projects in India, China, Nigeria, Haiti, Ghana, Malaysia, El Salvador, Kenya, Russia, Bulgaria, UAE, the UK, and the US. He has worked on both large scale green infrastructure planning, for example as infrastructure project leader for the Kuala Lumpur International Finance District (2012-2013), as well as designing NbS co-design and evaluation projects in informal settlements in Kenya and Tanzania (2019-2024). He is the author of influential peer-reviewed articles on NbS and Green Infrastructure, and has collaborated extensively with ecologists, landscape architects, artists, and other activists throughout his career.
