JD brings a unique expertise in policy and planning to developing strategies for urban nature. He collaborates with cities around the world to shape innovative mechanisms to advance the planning and design of biophilic cities. With a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center and a Masters in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, JD helps cities develop policy frameworks to promote abundant and equitably accessible nature. He has authored a range of guiding documents to assist cities in implementing the concepts of biophilic cities, including
Planning for Biophilic Cities published by the American Planning Association. In addition to his role at Second Nature, JD serves as the Program Director for
Biophilic Cities, located in the University of Virginia’s School of Architecture, where he has also provided instruction to graduate and undergraduates on the topics of planning law and biophilic cities.
